Conservation of plan on natural tracing paper

Owner: Municipal Archive of Ripollet (Diputació de Barcelona)
Artefact: Architectural drawing. Plan on natural tracing paper, drawn on china ink and hand coloured (watercolours). It measures 60 x 80 cm.
Date: c. 1942.
Damages: Tears, folds, wrinkles, mild losses, distortions of the paper due to humidity and old repairs.
Conservation treatment: Cleaning, tear mending, losses infilling, lining and flattening.
We are quite proud of this treatment since tracing paper is most rebel: folds and tears are most visible because of their lack of translucency. We’ve taken the before and after images on a black background so that you can judge the results.
