Conservation of limp laced-case vellum binding with boards

Owner: Private collection.
Artefact: Limp laced-case vellum binding with board. A board inside the parchment wrapper restricts the limpness. Just relatively, since the board is not pasted onto the wrapper. Laced-case vellum binding with ties. Printed Book.
Date: 17-18th c.
Damages: Severe structural damages: loose covers due to the breakage of the thongs and endbands cores. Parchment losses on the spine. Some synthethic glue had been formerly adhered onto the front cover, to fix the broken parchment into it (darker area). Fastenings and ties were also lost.
Conservation treatment: Fromer repairs removal (adhesive on the cover). Structural damages repair (loose cover), cleaning, flattening under tension and infilling of the parchment. Sewing reinforcement, new endbands and replacement of the broken thongs and ties. Rebound over the original covers.
